How much does it cost to use the gift card?
Free in Norway. Two exceptions: payment in foreign currency, and cards that have been unused for more than 12 months.
Updated 17 August 2026
It costs nothing to use the Glede gift card in Norway. Activating the card, adding it to Apple Pay or Google Wallet and checking the balance is also free.
There are two exceptions.
1. Payment in foreign currency: 2.99%
If you pay in a currency other than Norwegian kroner, a currency surcharge of 2.99% will apply. It covers the cost of exchange and is standard for card payments abroad.
If you shop at a foreign online store that allows you to choose Norwegian kroner, you avoid the surcharge.
2. Unused for more than 12 months: NOK 34 per month
If you have not used up the gift card within 12 months after activation, an account maintenance fee of NOK 34 per month will apply. It is automatically deducted from the balance, and stops when the card is empty.
We do not notify you when the fee starts. The reminders we send only apply to gift cards that have not been activated, i.e. the deadline of 4 months. If you have activated the card, you must keep track of the 12-month deadline yourself — see How long is the gift card valid for?.
Briefly summarized
- Use in Norway — always free
- Use in foreign currency — 2.99% currency surcharge
- Unused over 12 months — NOK 34 per month, deducted from the balance
