Changing the country and currency of your gift

If you live somewhere other than where the gift was sent, you can change the country and currency yourself. Here is how, and how we work out the amount.

Updated 26 August 2026

Your gift arrives in the currency the sender chose. If you live somewhere else, you can change the country and currency yourself — there is no need to contact us.

Are you the sender? The recipient makes the change from their gift link before activation. You can share this guide with them.

How to change it

  1. Open the gift link

Use the link you received by text message or email.

  2. Tap the flag at the top left

The flag, currency and language are shown together in one button. Choose “Country and currency” in the window that opens. You can also find separate “Change currency” and “Change language” options in the menu at the top right.

  3. Pick the country you live in

You can see straight away what you would end up with in each country.

  4. Check it and confirm

Before you confirm, we show what you have, what you get, “Your rate”, and which gift cards you would be able to choose from afterwards.

If you have already activated the gift card, the currency can no longer be changed.

What it costs

Switching to another currency costs a 5 % currency exchange fee. It is deducted from the original amount the sender chose, before we convert.

If you receive 1 000 kr and switch to euros, we deduct 50 kr and convert the remaining 950 kr at the current rate. What you get and “Your rate” are shown before you confirm, never afterwards.

You can switch back

Switching back to the original currency is free, and you get the full original amount again. Switch 1 000 kr to euros and then back to kroner, and you have 1 000 kr — not 950.

You also only ever pay one fee, no matter how many times you switch. We always calculate from the original amount in the original currency, never from the previous switch, so the fees do not stack.

What you get in each country

  • Norway and Sweden — the Glede Mastercard appears first. When the gift settings allow it, you can also choose a gift card from one of our brand partners.
  • Other supported countries — you choose from gift cards from our brand partners, in that country’s currency.

That is why we show the selection for the new amount before you confirm: you can see that there is something you actually want before the switch is made.

If you choose Norwegian or Swedish kroner, the mobile number on the gift must start with +47 or +46 — that is the number you sign in with in the Glede app. With any other number, it has to be changed first.

If your country is not in the list, contact us and we will find a way.
