Nexans is an international group and a leading cable manufacturer with a broad portfolio across power, telecommunications, installation and heating cables. In Norway they run factories in Halden, Langhus and Rognan.
One of their core values is "United". They stand strong together and collaborate closely both internally and with customers. Part of living that value is showing employees they are appreciated through generous employee gifts.
The challenge
With more than 1,000 employees in Halden and another 600 in Oslo, Nexans needed an efficient and tidy way to handle employee gifts. Previously, HR ordered physical gift cards that were sent through the mail — a slow process that could take days before the gifts reached the recipient. Clara Arnesen, HR Consultant at Nexans Norway, explains:
Before, we had to order physical gift cards through head office, and it took several working days before we in Halden received them. It required a lot more planning.
The solution
In 2024, Nexans adopted Glede as their digital platform for employee gifts. Clara is responsible for all employee gifts at the Halden factory, while her colleagues in Oslo handle the Oslo employees along with invoicing and follow-up.
There are several things Clara appreciates about Glede. She can:
- Use ready-made templates with text, cards and amounts tailored to the occasion
- Plan ahead with the "send later" feature — perfect for birthdays and anniversaries, where Clara often schedules sends months in advance.
- Track usage of gift cards after sending. The order overview shows whether cards have been opened or used, and surfaces warm thank-you messages from employees who appreciate the gift
- Use custom cards for any occasion, like weddings and retirements
Glede is clear, easy to use and very flexible. I especially like that I can queue up orders before a holiday and trust that the gifts will go out on the right date.
Nexans also has a sizeable team in Sweden, and Glede makes it just as easy to send gifts across the border. "It is great to have one service that handles gifts for employees in both Sweden and Norway," Clara says.
The result
Today, Clara spends a maximum of five minutes sending a gift card to an employee, and roughly one hour each quarter planning birthdays and anniversaries. That is a significant time saving compared to the old setup.
Employees love that the gift is digital and lives on their phone via SMS or email. "What matters most to me is knowing the gifts arrive on time, and that employees get something they actually like," Clara says.
I have not received a single complaint from employees, and to me that means everyone who has received a gift card through Glede is happy with it.
The road ahead
Clara is clear that Glede has become an important part of HR work at Nexans: "I would recommend Glede to anyone. It is easy to use, fast to send, and the gifts can be used everywhere," she concludes.
It saves us so much time — and makes my day-to-day a lot easier.
