VG is Norway’s most-read newspaper, with more than two million daily readers across web, mobile and print. To deliver high-quality products and services, the company has built a culture around user insight and feedback. They talk to their users regularly to learn how to improve existing services and shape new ones — and as a thank you for their time, they often send a gift card afterwards.
Juni Eurora Breian Herdal works on a team that develops new services at VG, and shares why they reward test users. "We get incredibly valuable feedback from users that helps us in product development. That is why it matters to us to reward testers with something that has real value to them."
Gift cards are VG’s preferred way to say thank you, because they give the recipient flexibility. Juni highlights two factors that matter most:
- It has to be quick and easy for users to redeem the gift card

The VG team used to rely on a less flexible service. "With our previous solution we had to send out a code manually, one user at a time. That worked fine when we only had a few recipients, but it became very time-consuming when we needed to reward larger groups," Juni says.
