Tax-free gifts: what you need to keep track of yourself

The limit is 5,000 NOK per employee per year. Glede does not count for you — this is how you find out what each individual has received.

Updated 18 August 2026

An employer can give up to 5,000 NOK per employee per calendar year in tax-free gifts, as long as the gift is not cash. This article is about the practical side: how to find out what each person has received, and what amount actually counts.

Glede does not keep track of the limit for you. We do not count together what an employee has received throughout the year, and we do not notify you when someone is approaching 5,000 NOK. You have to keep track of that yourself — below is the easiest way.

This is how you see what one employee has received this year

  1. Go to Orders

    The address is send.glede.app/orders.

  2. Click "Download as CSV"

You will get a file with all the gifts, one row per recipient.

  3. Filter by year and recipient

The file has its own Year column, and both email and phone number per recipient. Sum Gift Amount for the person in question.

If you are a member and not an administrator, you will only see your own orders in the export. If someone needs an overview of the entire company, they must be an administrator — see Invite colleagues and choose role.

Which amount counts?

It is the gift amount that counts — that is, what the employee actually receives. Our service fee, and the VAT on it, is a cost for the company and not part of the gift to the employee.

If you send a gift card for 1,000 NOK, it is 1,000 NOK that counts towards the 5,000 limit — not what you pay us in total. On the invoice, the service fee is specified separately, so the two are easy to distinguish.

Cases that are easy to miss

  • Gifts planned ahead of time. It is the date the gift is actually sent that determines which year it belongs to. An order you place in December, but that is sent in January, belongs to the new year.
  • Canceled and refunded gifts. They are still in the CSV export, but with a status showing what happened. Check the status before you sum.
  • Board members and hired personnel. The rules for gifts in employment do not apply equally to everyone. If you are unsure whether someone falls within this, ask their accountant.
  • Employees abroad. If they are employed by the Norwegian company, Norwegian rules apply. Which gift card they receive depends on the country — see Sending gifts abroad.

Documentation for the accounts

Each order has its own reference number, and you will receive an invoice with the service fee specified. The invoices can be found under Settings → Invoices. Together with the CSV export, this usually covers what an auditor asks for. See Pay with invoice for how invoicing and EHF work.

Is there a minimum amount per gift? Yes — a single gift must be at least 25 kr, and can be at most 10,000 kr. This is a limit in Glede, not a tax rule.

The regulations themselves

We do not give tax advice. The limits, what is considered a gift, and what applies for anniversaries are described by the Tax Administration, and we have compiled an overview at gifts paid by the employer. If the matter is doubtful, it is your accountant who should decide.
